There are so many Paintings inside of me, if someone asks for a floral piece or a view of the jungle, I search my heart, and the Islands, to find their piece.  I do not paint from photographs. There is nothing wrong with doing so, it is just something I cannot do. I must see what I want to Paint in my mind completely before I can start. With Watercolour, especially on Silk, there can be no mistakes. For instance, if I were to Paint a Hibiscus, I would look long and hard at it until it was fixed in my mind. Then, as I am creating the composition, I can turn the flower about, see the other side, or make the sun come out and see where the shadows fall. If I only had a photoghaph, I could not do this. I have many Plants, Birds, and Places fixed in my mind, yet I am always looking for more. The Islands, like life itself, are so fragile, and constantly changing. When I see something unique and beautiful, I fix it in my mind for a later Painting. Often the finished compositions come to me in dreams.  When I first started selling my Work to Galleries, they wanted me to paint the same things over and over. Whatever had sold last, they wanted again. I worked in a kitchen full time for ten years to Paint what I wanted to. To Paint my Dreams.
